2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Oil Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Remove and Install an Oil Filter on an Engine on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: All engines use a high-rated disposable full-flow oil filter 1, so it's important to only use a Mopar or equivalent filter. Place a pan below the oil filter to collect oil and loosen it using the proper wrench. Turn the oil filter counterclockwise to free it from its mount on the cylinder block. When the filter and gasket separate, tip the top of the filter upward, then remove it from the car, making sure the gasket was removed too. Sweep away oil and dirt from the gasket sealing area using a wiping cloth. Prior to installation, add a bit of engine oil to the oil filter gasket 2 and attach the filter to the adapter nipple. Push the gasket against the surface 1 first, then use a firm hand to tighten the filter 2 a single rotation, taking care not to overdo it. After everything else is in place, put oil in, check the crankcase for the proper amount and turn on the engine to inspect it for leaks.
