2006 Jeep Wrangler Pilot Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service a pilot bearing on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before working on the pilot bearing, you should first take off the transmission, then the pressure plate and lastly the clutch disc. An internal (blind hole) puller should be used to get the pilot bearing out. Before your finish installing, grease the new bearing with Mopar high temperature bearing grease or a similar product. Turn the new bearing by hand into the crankshaft's cylinders, after which set it with the help of a clutch alignment tool. Use 180 grit emery cloth to lightly smooth the flywheel surface and follow by wiping it with wax and grease remover. You should fit the clutch disc and pressure plate just before you reinstall the transmission.
