Jeep Wrangler Pilot Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Pilot Bearing on Jeep Wrangler?
    A:
Before servicing or repairing the pilot bearing, take out the transmission according to the proper process for the transmission and transfer case. Following this, take the clutch cover and disc off and next proceed to pull off the pilot bearing with an internal (blind hole) puller. Grease the new bearing with Mopar high temperature grease and use your hands to start turning it on the Crankshaft, before locking it into place with a clutch alignment tool. Make a few scratches on the Flywheel with medium-grit cloth and wash it with wax and grease remover. The clutch disc and cover are the final step, then you install the transmission.
  • Q: How to maintain a pilot bearing on Jeep Wrangler?
    A:
Before servicing the pilot bearing, take off the transmission, then the clutch cover and disc. The Snap-On Tool Set CG40CB includes an internal (blind hole) puller which is best for removing the pilot bearing. Before installing, apply Mopar high temperature bearing grease to the new bearing and start it into the Crankshaft by hand, followed by seating it with a clutch alignment tool. Carefully scuff the Flywheel with 180 grit emery cloth, rub it with wax and grease remover and then assemble the clutch disc and cover, together with the transmission.
