2006 Jeep Wrangler Release Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Release Bearing on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before tackling clutch release bearing service or repair, first remove the transmission. Next, take the release bearing off from the release lever and disconnect them both. If the transmission front bearing retainer's bearing slide surface has any cracks, wear or scoring marks, remove and replace the retainer. Confirm that the fork pivot is secure and in great shape and check that the fork is not bent, damaged or worn; replace the release fork spring if it is dented or twisted. Use a thin coating of high temperature bearing grease or something similar, to grease the crankshaft pilot bearing, input shaft splines, bearing retainer slide surface, fork pivot and release fork pivot surface before installation. Install the new release bearing on the release fork and properly secure it and only then re-install the transmission.
