2006 Jeep Wrangler Water Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Water Pump on a 2.4L Engine on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: First empty the cooling system before removing the timing belt, camshaft sprockets and the rear timing belt cover to access the water pump of a 2.4L engine. Then, remove the screws holding the water pump to the engine and set the pump aside. Before you insert the new O-ring in the water pump's groove, cover it in Mopar Dielectric Grease to help it stay in place and keep leaks from occurring. Connect the pump body to the block by hand and secure it with screws tightened to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). Following assembly, give the pump a turn by hand to make sure it moves without obstructions. Restore the cooling system by refilling and measuring it with a pressure tester so that the pressure is 103 kPa (15 psi). Also, check the water pump shaft seal and O-ring for leather while doing the test. At last, replace the rear timing belt cover and the camshaft sprockets and then put on the timing belt.
