  A: Before fixing or replacing a thermostat, you should first disconnect the upper intake manifold. Lower the liquid in the cooling system below the thermostat water level, then unplug both the upper radiator hose from (2) and the coolant recovery system hose from its outlet connecter. On turbocharged vehicles, you must take out the fastener securing the A/C suction line support bracket to the coolant outlet connector stud and separate the bracket from the A/C suction line, moving the bracket back into place after. Then, take out the bolts connecting the coolant outlet connector and remove the thermostat assembly, always making sure to wipe the sealing areas.
