2007 Chrysler Sebring Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on 2007 Chrysler Sebring?
A: Before servicing or fixing the fluid and filter of the transaxle, look at the vehicle owner's manual for the right maintenance schedule. Make sure you're using only Mopar® ATF+4 for your transmission fluid and clean the magnet inside the oil pan with a clean, dry rag during the oil change. When you take apart the transaxle, change the fluid and filter. Lift the vehicle on a hoist, then make sure a container is below the oil pan of the transaxle. Loosen the pan bolts and tapping one corner will help the oil flow out as you remove it. Change the filter and O-ring at the bottom of the valve body, tidy the oil pan and magnet with a cleaning service, install the pan again with Mopar Silicone Adhesive and tighten the bolts to 19 Nm or 165 in. lbs. Open the dipstick, pour in four quarts of Mopar® ATF+4, start the engine and let it run for at least sixty seconds. After drawing the handbrake, go briefly through the gears until the selector lever reaches park or neutral. Ensure the transaxle fluid is within 3 mm (1/8 in.) below the lowest mark and then test the level again after normal operating temperature is reached which is 82° C (180° F). Firmly push the dipstick down so dirt doesn't get inside the transaxle. For this dipstick tube fluid suction approach, be sure the transaxle is not cold, use an adequate suction device and insert the suction line into the dipstick tube, making sure it touches the lowest part of the oil pan. To empty the system, follow what the manufacturer says, take out the suction line, fill the engine with four quarts of Mopar® ATF+4 through the dipstick and turn on the engine. You'll then need to continue as explained before, making sure to seat the dipstick when you're done.
