2007 Dodge Caravan CV Boot Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a CV Boot for Outer on 2007 Dodge Caravan?
A: The first part of servicing the Constant Velocity Joint Boot is to remove the halfshaft assembly from the vehicle. Take the bigger boot clamp (4) out of the CV joint housing (3) and discard it and remove the smaller clamp (1) securing the outer CV boot to the interconnecting shaft (5) as well. Take off the sealing boot (2) so it lies over the shaft and wipe the grease away from the outside of the outer CV joint and shaft. Set the interconnecting shaft in a vise with protective caps, then carefully hit the front end of the CV joint housing with a soft-faced hammer (1) so the housing's tail releases from the circlip (3) inside. Gently push the CV joint off the end of the interconnecting shaft or use a gentle tap to remove it. You should always replace a circlip with a new one. Take off the circlip on the interconnecting shaft and then push the sealing boot further down. Next, inspect and clean the outside front and rear joints, plus the interconnecting joints; excessive wear shown on any part means you'll have to replace the halfshaft assembly, as the component parts in these assemblies are not serviceable.
