- Q: How to Service and Repair a CV Boot on 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan?A: You should begin services and repairs for the Constant Velocity Joint Boot by removing the halfshaft requiring a boot change from the vehicle. Remove the big boot clamp from the inner tripod joint boot and also discard the small one on the interconnecting shaft. Then, open the tripod housing and pull the sealing boot off. Insert the boot down into the shaft that connects to the housing. Slide down the joint housing on the inner column, over the spider and the interconnecting shaft. Eliminate the snap-ring that holds the spider assembly to the interconnecting shaft to prevent damaging the outer tripod bearings. Be careful not to harm the spider assembly bearings when you release the spider assembly from the interconnecting shaft. You can take off the spider assembly if it won't budge by just tapping its metal parts with a brass bushing drift. Once you've removed the rotor, uncover the interconnecting shaft and thoroughly check the spider assembly, tripod housing and shaft for noticeable signs of wear by cleaning them completely. Any halfshaft assembly where the components show significant wear should be replaced because you cannot service that part.
