2007 Dodge Grand Caravan Piston Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Piston and Its Connecting Rod on 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Before removing the piston and connecting rod, first take off the negative cable from the battery and remove the cylinder heads and the oil pan. If required, use a good ridge reamer to get rid of the upper ridge on each piston's bore once it is well reamed. To remove the pistons and connecting rods from the upper part of the cylinder, turn the crankshaft to place each connecting rod in its center in the cylinder. Look at the connecting rods and caps and check them for identification. Mark them if required. After that, take out the connecting rod cap and put connecting rod bolt protectors on each bolt. Gently remove each piston and connecting rod assembly from the cylinder bore to keep the crankshaft journals from being nicked. After taking out the bearing cap screw, place it on the mating rod.
