  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Piston's Connecting Rod on 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan?
    A: Disconnect the negative cable from the battery to remove and put in place the connecting rod. After that, take out the cylinder heads and the oil pan. If required, apply a strong ridge reamer to the top of each cylinder bore before removing the pistons, to guarantee the tops of the pistons are covered until you finish the job. The connecting rods and pistons are needed to be removed from above the cylinder block, while turning the crankshaft to center each connecting rod inside the cylinder bore. Check the connecting rods and caps to know which cylinder they are for and mark them when needed. Unscrew the cap from the connecting rod, then hold the cracked connecting rod with protectors from special tool #8189 as you install them. Take out each piston and connecting rod assemblage from the cylinder bore, being careful not to damage the crankshaft journals. Once you have removed it, fit the bearing cap to the rod where it attaches.
