2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter in a 48RE on 2007 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Raise the vehicle on safety stands and position a wide, shallow pan underneath the 48RE transmission's pan before you start. Disconnect the bolts securing both sides and the front of the pan to the transmission, loosen those at the back and pull out the front while keeping the reusable gasket. When drained, take out the last bolt that is holding the pan and carry it at a level angle to the drain pan to empty the rest. After that, loosen the screws backing up the filter to the valve body, discard the filter, drain the fluid into the drain pan and then dispose of both the fluid and the filter properly. To install the filter, hold it over its valve body and quickly tighten the screws to 4 Nm (35 in.lbs.). Ensure the surfaces of both gaskets on the transmission oil pan and transmission pan rail remain undamaged, then if the ribs are intact, wash the gasket and install it again. Insert the gasket into the oil pan, place it onto the transmission and secure with a few bolts. Next, secure the additional bolts in the oil pan and tighten them to 13.6 Nm (125 in.lbs.), drop the car down onto its wheels and add about 3.8 liters (4.0 quarts) of fluid to the transmission.
