2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Brake Light Switch on 2007 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: First, remove the battery negative (minus) cable to disable the supplemental restraint system and wait two minutes for the air bag capacitor to drain. The brake lamp switch self-adjusting switch plunger changes only once, so if the switch is taken out of the mounting bracket, you have to replace it with a new switch. You should start by step on and hold the brake pedal. After matching the tabs on the brake lamp switch locking collar with the keyed hole in the switch mounting bracket on the lower steering column, insert the tabs through the keyed hole until the switch sits snugly against the bracket. Rotate the housing toward you about 30 degrees to connect the tabs to the mounting bracket. Do not press or pull on the brake pedal before making the last switch plunger adjustment. Push the brake pedal out and then rotate the plunger adjustment release lever in a clockwise direction until the lever is locking onto a spot parallel to the brake lamp switch connector receptacle. The switch plunger is set by this action, so the adjustment cannot be reversed; if not done correctly, a new brake lamp switch has to be fitted. At the end, link the wire harness connector back to the brake lamp switch and plug the battery negative cable in.
