Q: How to Service and Repair an Oil Pan on 2007 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Service and repair of the oil pan require disconnecting the negative battery cable and installing support fixture special tool #8534 without lifting the engine. Remove all engine mount to frame through bolts from both sides in a 2WD vehicle, but for 4WD vehicles, loosen the engine mount bracket bolts on both sides and then take out the lower bolt on each side, since the upper hole in the engine bracket has a slot. After that, discard the dust cover that surrounds the engine, drain out the engine oil and take off the front crossmember. Position the engine with special tool #8534 by just a little so that the oil pan can be extracted easily and the clearance in the fan shroud and at the cowl is correct. Take the nuts off the transmission mount to crossmember and, with a suitable transmission jack, lift the transmission off of the crossmember by about 3 inches. Prying on the oil pan or its gasket should be avoided, since lifting the gasket can damage the engine windage tray. After removing the oil pan holding bolts in the proper order, remove the oil pan, paying attention to place the double ended oil pan studs in the same place they were originally. First, remove the oil pump pickup tube by unbolting it, because the oil pan gasket/windage tray assembly must be changed and can't be put back on the old gasket. Replacing the tray and gasket is necessary after discarding the integral windage pieces.
