2007 Dodge Sprinter 3500 Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Filter on 2007 Dodge Sprinter 3500?
A: Before repairing or removing your automatic transmission fluid filter, turn the engine on and let the filter get warm. Removing the drain plug access plug from the hot end of the housing, turn the engine clockwise until the drain plug is over the opening and remember to clean the surrounding area so that dirt can't enter the torque converter. After placing a drain pan under the vehicle, remove the torque converter drain plug (8), let the torque converter drain, inspect the torque converter drain plug seal (9) and replace it if you discover any damage. Attach the installed drain plug (8) to the torque converter with 14 Nm (10 ft.lbs.) tightness. Afterward, put back the torque converter drain plug access plug into the housing. Use an appropriate drain pan to eliminate the transmission oil pan drain plug and observe the transmission oil pan drain plug seal. Replace the seal if you find it broken. Attach the transmission oil pan drain plug (6) and tighten it until it has 20 Nm (15 ft.lbs.) of torque. After removing the bolts (5) and retainers (4) holding the oil pan (3) to the transmission, get rid of the oil pan (3) and the old gasket (2). Disconnect and remove the transmission oil filter and O-ring from the control unit, clean out the oil pan (3) and examine the oil pan gasket (2). If it shows damage, replace it. Put a new oil filter (1) and O-ring into the electrohydraulic control unit, then connect the oil pan (3) again and gasket (2) to the transmission. Tighten the oil pan by inserting bolts (5) and retainers (4), with a torque of 8 Nm (70 in.lbs.). Move the vehicle close to the ground, pour in 5.0 L (10.6 pts.) of transmission fluid and check how much oil is there.
