2007 Jeep Compass Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for a Gas Engine on 2007 Jeep Compass?
A: When handling the power steering line and hose for a gas engine, keep the hoses out of the way of the exhaust system, driveshafts and similar damaging parts. Begin by wiping inside the open hose and port on the pump with a lint-free towel, use new O-rings and grease them with power steering fluid. Install the power steering pressure hose from underneath into the engine compartment and then attach the routing clamps to the crossmember with screws, putting a push clip on the left and screwing the right end down to 8 Nm (71 inch-pounds). Secure the pressure hose coming from the gear pump with a tightened tube nut (32 Nm). Follow that by tightening the other tube nut where the return tube is connected at the gear (20 Nm). Join the return hose at the return tube, lower your vehicle and afterwards unite the pressure hose at the pump pressure port by screwing on the tube nut to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.). Bolt the pressure hose routing bracket to the upper mount and for all non-AWD 2.4L engines, use the pressure hose routing clamp on the exhaust manifold, tighten the bolt to 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.) and run the pressure hose routing clamp. If your vehicle has a 2.4L Engine All-Wheel-Drive, go through the procedure described. Then, bleed the power steering, make sure there are no leaks and add the engine appearance cover.
