2007 Jeep Compass Steering Wheel Parts and Q&A
Q: What is the Safe Method for Removing a Steering Wheel on 2007 Jeep Compass?
A: Before trying to take off the steering wheel, place the tires in the middle of the car and unhook the negative cable to turn off the air bag system. Let the air bag system capacitor drain for two minutes. After that, take out the driver air bag and pull off the connector at the Clock Spring. Securely holding the wheel, remove the bolt keeping the steering wheel on the shaft. First, seat the puller jaws tightly around the steering wheel base and thread the bolt all the way into the puller until about 13 mm (0.5 in.) of thread is showing between the bolt and wheel. Take out the screw for the speed control switch before installing the steering wheel puller tool and then install the puller. Don't hit the steering wheel or steering column shaft with your hands while you are uninstalling it. Next, keep the steering wheel straight, remove it with the puller and take out the bolt holding it together.
