2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Service a Power Steering Pump for 3.7L and 4.7L Engines on 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: If servicing the power steering pump for 3.7L and 4.7L engines, don't use the old pulley again, as it cannot be safely reused; install a new pulley when removing the old one. If you notice that your pulley is bent, broken or not tight, change it out. Attach the pulley to the pump with the OTC(R) 7771 tool or its equivalent, aligning it flush to the shaft with the other components on the shaft. Once the assembly is in place, run the engine until it is warm for a few minutes and listen for a belt chirp. When there's a noise, simultaneously move the pulley away from the engine 0.5 mm (0.020 in.) and see if the problem gets better. If the noise improves, bring the pulley inward about 1.0 mm (0.040 in.), though make sure the pulley does not touch the mounting bolts.
