2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The first step to servicing or repairing a power steering pump is to siphon the reservoir. On the 3.7L and 4.7L pumps, remove the cooler return hose at the reservoir, remove the pressure hose nut and take off the pressure hose at the pump, disconnect the serpentine drive belt and take out the three pump mounting bolts. You should also remove the pulley if it becomes necessary during repairs. Siphon the power steering reservoir, remove both the air intake tube and the drive belt and after that, pull out the supply hose at the pump and the pressure line from the pump before removing the three pump bolts. For the setting up, mount the pulley as needed, tighten all the pump bolts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.), install the drive belt, connect the pressure hose and seal it with 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.), install the return hose on the reservoir and fill the reservoir with 21 ounces of power steering fluid. If the 5.7L pump had the pulley removed, remember to reinstall it. Secure the three pump mounting bolts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.); hook up the pressure hose and tighten its nut to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Connect the supply hose back to the pump, lay the drive belt onto the pulley, fit the air intake tube, fill up the power steering system with fluid and bleed the system using a scan tool.
