2008 Chrysler Pacifica Crankshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Extract a Crankshaft from an Engine on 2008 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: Disassemble the engine and then disconnect the transaxle from it to remove the crankshaft. Installing the engine on an engine stand, next remove the oil filter, oil pan and oil pick-up tube. After that, remove the covering for the timing chain, along with the timing chain and sprockets. Take out the crankshaft rear oil seal and retainer, but don't interchange the connecting rod caps, as various 3.8L engines have both forged and cracked caps. Crankshaft rotation helps you locate the connecting rod cap and you should mark its place before detaching the connecting rod bearing cap to prevent any scratches on the crankshaft bearings. Go through this sequence for all the connecting rod caps, then take out and discard the main bearing cross bolts and their washers. When putting it all back together, replace them with new bolts and washers. Remove both the main bearing cap bolts and main bearing caps last, before you pull out the crankshaft.
