2008 Chrysler Pacifica Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove the Drive Shaft Without Causing Damage on 2008 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: Remove the propeller shaft only when two people are helping, because it must never be held only by the center bearing or the power transfer unit flange. Turn on the hoist to raise the vehicle and remove the bracket at the rear muffler, plus all the central hanger brackets. Check the transaxle is in neutral and put marks with chalk on the flanges of the propeller shaft at both the power transfer unit and rear driveline module to help with installation later on. Take out the six bolts holding the propeller shaft to the power transfer unit, but keep it attached for the time being. Carefully consider, because when you take out the rubber coupler, you may get vibration problems. After that, unfasten the three bolts that attach the rubber coupler-to-driveline module to the driveline module, but don't take the module off. Have someone position themselves behind the steering segment and part of the center piece while you loosen and remove the bolts keeping both segments supported. Take care of the central and front portions and have your helper add support to the rear end as you remove the rear segment bearing/support. After that, carefully place the assembled propeller shaft onto the ground, making sure the fore and aft flanges do not get damaged.
