Position the vehicle on a hoist and spray penetrating oil on the band clamp fastener of the component you're removing, but skip the petroleum-based products for the muffler or exhaust pipe isolator; instead, use a mix of liquid dish soap and water. Then, get rid of the ground strap found at the back part of the muffler. Unfasten the band clamp and remove both support isolators at the muffler, before removing the muffler from the intermediate pipe. Be sure to clean the ends of the pipes and muffler so everything fits correctly and get rid of any broken, worn, rusted or aging isolators, clamps, supports and any other connecting parts.
