2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Catalytic Converter and Ensure It Fits Perfectly in the Exhaust System on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: First, fit the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold connection by using a new flange gasket as the guide. Attach the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold using 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) of torque. After that, connect the intermediate pipe and the muffler to each other, clear well-aligned and check the spacing before tightening all clamps. Every part in the front of the system should be adjusted to make sure it is properly placed and has the correct clearance with underbody parts as required. Attach the clamps at 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.), being careful not to tighten them past the point where the clamps contact the center hourglass-shaped block which will reduce the clamping strength and require you to replace them. If you found the downstream oxygen sensor gone, insert it back in its place and link the electrical connector. Connect the 1.6L engine's upstream oxygen sensor to the connector. After that, turn the engine on and check for any leaks from the exhaust, fix any issues you find and make sure the exhaust parts do not touch the body parts; fix them if they do.
