2008 Dodge Avenger Crankshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Extract a Crankshaft from an Engine on 2008 Dodge Avenger?
A: Remove the engine from the vehicle first; next, take off the transaxle from the engine to remove the crankshaft. The next thing to do is take off the flex plate/flywheel and the rear oil seal on the crankshaft. After this, place the engine on a nice repair stand and drain the engine oil before taking out the oil filter. The crankshaft vibration damper and water pump pulley have to be removed, as well as the engine mount support bracket and the oil pan. The timing chain cover and timing chain must be taken out, together with the balance shaft module after that. It is important to unmount the crankshaft sprocket, crankshaft position sensor and ladder frame. Should a piston or connecting rod need to be changed, the cylinder head has to be taken out first. To prevent harm, you should not use a number stamp or punch, but instead use a permanent ink or paint marker to write the cylinder number on both sides of each connecting rod and cap. Removing both the bolts and the caps from the connecting rod must be done carefully, so as not to harm the fracture rod and cap surfaces and the same bolts should never be reinstalled. Afterwards, take out the main bearing caps and raise the crankshaft from the cylinder block so the main bearings or journals remain unharmed.
