2008 Dodge Avenger Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Assemble a Shock Absorber in a Suspension Strut on 2008 Dodge Avenger?
A: The next step to assembly is putting the coil spring into the compressor while rotating it so the little end of the bottom coil is located at about 9 o'clock. Ease down the coil spring until the tool allows you to reassemble the bobbin. Then, add the bearing and upper spring seat (3) along with the isolator (4) to the coil spring (7) and then place the upper mount (2) over the assembly. Attach the lower spring isolator (8) to the strut (damper) seat (9) and next slide the jounce bumper (6) and dust shield (5) over the strut rod. Put the strut down through the bottom coil spring and upper spring seat, add the mount and bearing and check that the bottom coil end (2) is touching the inner stop (1) in the upper spring isolator. After placing the strut in the chassis, set the nut (1) onto the strut rod and avoid using tools that run at high speeds or apply strong impacts to the strut so as not to damage its inner bearings. Loosen the strut rod nut with the Strut Nut Wrench (2), then use Special Tool 9362 on it, along with a deep socket (1) on the strut rod, to tighten with the torque wrench while preventing any turning of the strut rod. Work the spring upward by releasing all pressure from the compressor (1), making sure the upper mount is lined up and turns smoothly. Afterward, withdraw the strut assembly from inside the spring compressor and place it onto the car.
