2008 Dodge Challenger Fuel Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Fuel Pump on 2008 Dodge Challenger?
A: You must first depressurize the fuel system, as the sensor remains under pressure even after the engine turns off; do not expose the sensor to sparks, open flames or smoke and be sure to wear proper protective clothing and eye protection in a well-ventilated spot. If these parts aren't operational and the fuel level cannot be measured, lift out the fuel tank before draining to avoid spills if the fuel level exceeds 5/8 of the tank. Cut off the negative terminal and afterward remove the rear lower seat cushion by pushing it up and behind. Pull back the foam covering the fuel pump module to reveal the small access cover and then remove that access cover. Detach the connector from the fuel pump module, ensuring you note the arrow at the top for putting it back together later. Before taking out the fuel tank, get rid of any trash from the opening using compressed air. List which way the fuel pump module should face, then use the lock-ring tool 9340 together with a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar to remove the lock-ring. To reach the lower links, remove the top of the module, first unplug the connectors on top and then lift up the module far enough to work on the bottom side. Remove the fuel supply line by pressing the quick connect release on the front of the engine and detaching the lower electrical connector. Ensure the vehicle's surface is clean of spills, after which tip over the fuel pump module and drain it before removing it. Change the rubber O-ring seal and get rid of the old one.
