2008 Dodge Dakota Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Right Camshaft on 2008 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, lubricate the camshaft journals with oil, then move the cam to a spot where the sprocket dowel is nearest to 10 o'clock, so it's in the center for a smoother fit of the caps. Put the camshaft into the cylinder head and set the bearing caps on the stamped numbers. Dive the retaining bolts by hand, making sure the arrow parts on the bearing caps point toward the engine's front. Make the bolts in the bearing cap 1/2 turn tighter, starting in the center and moving out, so that all are at 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Usually, the two marked timing chain links will have a clear V6 in between. Use Special Tool 8428 to turn the camshaft until the sprocket dowel matches the slot on the sprocket. After that, install the sprocket onto the camshaft. Please remove excessive oil from the camshaft sprocket bolt so that the retaining bolt does not fail, then tighten the bolt with your hands. After you take out timing chain wedge tool 8379, position adapter pins 8346 around tool 6958 and torque the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.). Then, place the camshaft position sensor inside and the cylinder head cover on the engine block.
