2008 Dodge Dakota Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove the Oil Pan from an Engine on 2008 Dodge Dakota?
A: It's important to first pull the negative battery cable before removing the engine oil pan. Fit the engine support fixture with tool # 8534 without lifting the engine at the present time. First, take out the bolts holding both left and right engine mounts, along with the structural dust cover, then empty the engine oil. Use tool # 8534 to elevate the engine, lifting it only a little extra, so the oil pan has enough room to be removed and the fan and cowl clearances are good. Before removing the oil pan from a 4WD car, lower the front axle so that space is available, without changing the axle or axle shafts. Eliminate the pinion bracket, separate the front driveshaft from the axle at the front and remove all bolts holding the front axle in place. Pump down the jack beneath the axle so you can access the oil pan for removal. Do not loosen or break the oil pan gasket, because it remains attached to the engine windage tray. In the end, remove the oil pan mounting bolts and pull out the oil pan and also take off the oil pump tube. Review the windage tray and gasket, swapping them out when it is required.
