2009 Dodge Dakota Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Right Camshaft on 2009 Dodge Dakota?
A: When servicing a camshaft, first grease the camshaft journals with clear engine oil, rotate it so that its sprocket dowel comes close to the 10 o'clock position and adjust it to the center with the bearing caps to make installing them easier. Then, set the camshaft inside the cylinder head and install the bearing caps, hand tightening the bolts to make sure the numbers on the caps match, starting from front to back and the arrows all point toward the front of the engine. Tighten the middle cap first and then move outwards, each time turning the bolts 1/2 way and reaching 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) torque. Put the V6 mark of the camshaft drive gear between the two chain links marked on the timing chain. Use Camshaft Holder 8428A to rotate the camshaft so that the dowel in its sprocket fits into the slot of the sprocket, then slide the sprocket onto the camshaft. Using a cloth, take off any excess oil from the camshaft sprocket bolt and the bolt that holds it and then secure both with your hands only before torquing properly. Once you take out timing chain wedge tool 8379, apply tension with Tool 6958 spanner wrench containing adapter pins 8346 to bolt the camshaft sprocket at 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.). After that, connect the camshaft position sensor and fit the cylinder head cover.
