2008 Dodge Nitro Alternator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair an Alternator on 2008 Dodge Nitro?
A: Always begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable to ensure your safety while you then disconnect the battery output wire from the alternator. You should then undo the generator drive belt so it is not forced into the pulley with a screwdriver. Always set up the serpentine belt correctly to stop the water pump from running backward and possibly making the engine hotter; look at the routing instructions printed on the belt label in the engine compartment. Once the drive belt has been removed, unlatch the plastic cover from the B+ mounting stud and remove the B+ terminal mounting nut that's on the generator. At the rear of the generator, use your finger to push the tab on the field wire electrical connector and release it. Remove first the vertical generator mounting bolt, followed by two horizontal mounting bolts. Then lift out the generator from the vehicle.
