2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How Should You Safely Service and Repair the Fuel Rail on a 4.7L V-8 Engine on 2008 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: You should relieve the pressure in the fuel system before carrying out fuel rail service, because the system is still under pressure once the engine is turned off. The fuels rails should be changed out together as one piece; do not pull them apart at the tubes that are not clamped-do not add any clamps on them. Be careful not to flex or twist the tubes that go into the fuel rail assembly. You should begin by unscrewing the fuel tank filler tube cap, then do a pressure release on the fuel system. Start with detaching the negative battery cable and then dismantle the air duct and air box place at the throttle body. Second, unscrew the air resonator mounting bracket at the front of the throttle body, release the gas line latch clip and remove the fitment at the fuel rail and remove any essential vacuum connections at the throttle body. At all eight fuel injectors, press the red slider to one side, push down on the tab and remove the connector. Each tag on the injector harness indicates the position of the corresponding injector. In addition, take out the place holders and remove the eight ignition coils as well as all the electrical connectors from the throttle body sensors. Then, get rid of the four bolts connecting the fuel rail to the engine. Rock and pull the fuel rail gently on the left until the injectors move out of the machined holes, then repeat for the right side so all injectors clear out. In the end, take out the fuel rail with all of the injectors still attached from the engine. If you must remove the fuel injectors, follow the right steps for doing so.
