2008 Dodge Ram 3500 Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How Should You Safely Service and Repair a Fuel Rail on a 3.7L V-6 Engine on 2008 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: The fuel rail on the 3.7L V-6 engine should not be serviced before disconnecting from the fuel system pressure, since it remains pressurized even when the engine is switched off. Both the left and right fuel rails should be swapped as a group, not seperated at their connector tubes which are held in place with spray-in material; do not try to secure the tubes using any clamps. When disconnecting the fuel rail assembly, try to keep the tubes from bending or getting kinked. First, take off the fuel tank filler tube cap and start the Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure. Unplug the negative charge cable from the battery and then uninstall the air duct and air box from the throttle body. After that, get rid of the mounting bracket for the air resonator in the front of the throttle body, dismantle the clip and fuel line on the fuel rail and take off any required vacuum lines at the throttle body. Push the red slider toward the back of the injector, press the tab that holds the connector and take out the electrical connector. The wiring harness for the factory fuel injection has been marked to show where each injector is located. Remove the electrical wiring from all the throttle body sensors and remove the six ignition coils. Afterward, take out the four bolts that hold the fuel rail to the engine mounting. Gently rock and tug the left side of the fuel rail until you hear the injectors clearing the holes in the cylinder head and then repeat the step on the right side so all the fuel injectors are cleared. Afterwards, take out the fuel rail including the injectors from the engine. If you must remove the fuel injectors, use the proper removal steps.
