2009 Dodge Ram 3500 Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on a 5.7L Engine on 2009 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Pressure in the fuel system stays on a 5.7L engine even when the engine is not running, so always release it before dealing with the fuel rail. Be sure to replace the left and right fuel rails combined and avoid pulling them apart at the tube that does not use clamps. Be careful that the tubing of the fuel rail assembly remains straight as you are removing it. Open the fuel tank filler tube, then use the pressure release method on the fuel system. Take off the negative cable on the battery, disconnect the line joining the air cleaner housing to the engine and remove the air resonator box at the throttle body. Push the red slider way from each fuel injector, depress the tab with the pliers and take out the electrical connector. The factory fuel injection wiring harness is identified at the injector position for easy mapping. Following that, take out the wires coming off the throttle body sensors and the quick connector from the fuel rail. Unbolt the four fuel rail mounting bolts and remove the holddown clamps. Rock and tug on the left fuel rail until the injectors release and start clearing the machined holes in the intake manifold, then repeat this on the right side. Once done, remove the fuel rail and injectors together from the engine. Should the fuel injectors have to be taken out, act accordingly as detailed in the car instructions.
