  A: Before connecting the brake light switch, switch off the supplemental restraint system by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery and holding for two minutes to clear the capacitor's power. With the brake lamp switch plunger all the way out, press and continue holding the brake pedal. Put the tabs on the brake lamp switch locking collar into the keyed hole in the brake pedal bracket mounted to the right of the steering column on the instrument panel. Adjust the locking collar until the switch housing is set tightly next to the bracket and then turn the housing counterclockwise by about a third turn until you hear the locking tab click into place on the pedal bracket. Pulling the brake pedal up won't help, as it's supposed to touch the brake pedal arm when the pedal is relaxed. After you let go of the brake pedal, the brake lamp switch plunger will adjust automatically. From there, reconnect the wire harness connector to the brake lamp switch connector and reconnect the negative battery cable.
