2008 Jeep Compass A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: How Does the A/C Accumulator Prevent Compressor Damage in the Refrigerant System on 2008 Jeep Compass?
A: Proper A/C refrigerant service should always include oil level adjustment to protect the A/C system and avoid damage to the compressor. An internal failure of the A/C compressor justifies the replacement of the A/C accumulator to protect other components. If you're only changing the A/C accumulator, add 30 milliliters (1.0 fluid ounce) of the recommended oil to the system. Anytime you open a refrigerant line, be sure to replace the O-ring seals and gaskets to keep leaks from forming. Put the accumulator mounting bracket in place and then tighten the retaining bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Be sure to take away all tape or plugs from the open refrigerant line fittings and accumulator ports. First, use clean refrigerant oil to lubricate new rubber O-ring seals, then install the seals and gaskets alongside the R-134a-recommended O-rings on the suction line and accumulator fittings. Screw the A/C suction line into the accumulator inlet and close it by fastening the retaining nut to 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). Put the A/C accumulator on the mounting bracket and tighten the retaining band and bolt to 8 Nm (71 in. lbs.). After connecting the lower suction line for A/C to the outlet tube of the accumulator, tighten the nut to 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). Move the front of the right front wheel house splash shield so it touches the body and attach the three push pins and three screws with the rear face flush or angled back against the body, making sure to secure them all. Secure the front wheel and set the vehicle on the ground before you reconnect the negative battery wire. Operating the engine with a vacuum pump or a vacuum in the A/C system may result in the compressor being damaged. Detach the refrigerant from the system and, if you are changing the A/C accumulator, pump 30 milliliters (1.0 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil into the system. If you are replacing more than one part, use the chart for the correct oil amount. Once everything else is done, charge the refrigerant into the system.
