How to Remove the Rack and Pinion Steering Gear on 2008 Jeep Compass?

In order to remove the rack and pinion, siphon power steering fluid to access the intermediate shaft coupling and remove its bolt. Lock the steering wheel, jack up the vehicle and remove the tie rod ends. Remove engine mounts, heat shield, hoses and crossmember bolts to finally pull the rack and pinion out of the way.
