2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Washer Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Washer Pump for Headlamp Cleaning on 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before you open the hatch on the headlamp washer pump/motor unit, detach and separate the battery's negative cable. Carefully empty the washer reservoir into a clean container so that you can use the fluid again. Steer the vehicle to the full left, then put support under the vehicle. Remove the plastic fasteners at the front of the left front wheelhouse splash shield that are holding it against the inner fender panel and front fascia. Remove the left front wheelhouse splash shield from the inner fender panel and front fascia to reach the headlamp washer pump/motor on the outboard edge of the washer reservoir which sits above and behind the reversible front and rear washer pump/motor unit. Unplug the headlamp and dash wire harness from the headlamp washer pump motor and from the headlamp washer pump/motor unit. Separate the molded plastic lock from the headlamp washer supply hose quick connect fitting to let go of the hose attached to the washer pump nipple. Hold the washer pump/motor housing at its top and move it outboard to release the snap fit between the motor housing and the motor receptacle. To disengage the pump, gently press up on the washer pump using your hand so the pump nipple comes free from the rubber grommet seal/filter screen in the reservoir. Also, take out the rubber grommet seal/filter screen from the hole on the washer reservoir where the pump fits and throw it away.
