2009 Chrysler Aspen Shift Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Install a Shift Cable on 2009 Chrysler Aspen?
A: First, push the gearshift cable through the hole in the dash panel, then insert the cable grommet into the hole. First, fit the cable into the steering column bracket (1), so the retaining ears get engaged and then attach the cable eyelet onto the shift lever ball stud. Raise the car, put the transmission manual shift in the "PARK" position and spin the prop shaft to check the transmission is in park. For vehicles with RLE gears, run the gearshift cable (1) through the transmission mounting bracket (2) and snap the cable retaining ears into the transmission bracket, plus attach the cable eyelet on the manual shift lever (3) ball stud. When using RFE for transmission, treat these vehicles just like those using analog system. Pull the vehicle back onto its wheels, then snap the cable lock tab downward so it snaps in. In addition, be sure the transmission range sensor is functioning well and adjust the cables as required.
