Chrysler Aspen Shift Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How is a Shift Cable Installed on Chrysler Aspen?
    A:
First, bring the gearshift cable through the opening from the transmission to the dash panel and then push the cable grommet into this position. With the steering column bracket open, insert the cable into it so the retaining ears lock and set the end of the cable onto the shift lever ball stud. With the car raised, put the transmission into PARK detent by setting the manual shift lever and checking that the prop shaft has turned the right way. On a reciprocating link transmission with a gearshift cable, put the cable through the transmission mounting bracket and fasten it with retaining ears attached to the transmission and the cable eyelet screwed on the shift lever ball stud. RFE transmission vehicles also need to be handled in the same way that other GM vehicles are. Adjust the lock on the cable adjuster by pressing the tab down until you hear it click. Then, look at the transmission range sensor and change the gearshift cable as needed.
