2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser Windshield Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install and Seal a Windshield on 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before you put in the windshield, keep the left front door unlocked so the pressure doesn't rise in the passenger area, since shutting a door too soon can lead to water leaks; make sure the urethane has at least 24 hours to fully cure before driving. Check that the gel on the windshield fence is smooth and the same shape as the windshield and confirm support spacers are fitted and correctly screwed into position on the weld studs or repair screws at the base of the opening. Look at the roof panel hooks and put in squeak tape if you don't see any. Ensure that both the replacement windshield and the area it is replacing both have squeak tape and anti-squeak lube, then hook the encapsulation locator pin through the glass and put each encapsulation hook onto its panel hook. Glass encapsulation should be placed smoothly on the roof panel; if there are gaps, adjust the pinch weld fence so it works with the new glass. Set your new windshield on a flat surface, with the padded wood blocks 75 cm apart underneath. Clean the insides of your windshield with ammonia-based glass cleaner and a cloth without lint, then cover the edge with Glass Prep and wipe until everything is clean. Then, put Glass Primer on the edges and let it dry for at least three minutes. Put a strip of urethane over the windshield glass, then, using someone's support, set the windshield over the opening and fix the encapsulation locator pin before installing the encapsulation hooks onto the roof panel hooks. Guide the windshield into the opening until none of the second seal shows outside and the roof panel keeps it proper. Clear away extra urethane from the outside and use tape to seal any places around the windshield opening if you see gaps. Remove the tape after the urethane cures, check the repair with water, place the cowl covers and put on the rear view mirror. Remove the tape strips and check the windshield with water again after the urethane has cured for 10-12 hours.
