2009 Chrysler Town & Country Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Damaged or Ineffective Air Bag on 2009 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Before you replace a damaged or ineffective side curtain air bag, shut down the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) by taking out the negative battery cable and waiting two minutes for it to empty. Always use rubber gloves, safety goggles and a full shirt to avoid harm from possible irritants on the air bag. It's important to begin by taking off the headliner from your vehicle. After that, slide the white plastic retainer out of the side curtain air bag front tether and free the metal hook attaching the front tether to the A-pillar. Pull out two plastic push-in helpers that retain the front tether on the A-pillar closest to the driver. Remove the wire harness connector from the connector receptacle hanging from the side curtain air bag near the side roof rail right above the C-pillar. Next, pry out the plastic retainer on the inner D-pillar close to the belt line, freeing the side air bag bracket, then release the metal hook attached to the inner D-pillar and finally unhook the other three plastic retainer clips holding the rear tether bracket to the inner D-pillar. Separate the six nuts attaching the side curtain's mounting tabs to the six nuts four weld studs on the roof's inner rail. Once the seal latches come free, remove the two nuts, securing the inflator mounting tabs to the inflator mounting bracket. Remove the side curtain air bag from the car as one unit at last.
