2009 Chrysler Town & Country Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Shock Absorber in the Front Suspension on 2009 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Raise the vehicle and then support it before you remove and replace the strut assembly. Take out the three wheel mounting nuts and afterward take the tire and wheel assembly off. labeling the strut assemblies left and right will prevent you from mixing up their parts during their reinstallation. Take note that the two wheel speed sensor mounting brackets are installed opposite each other, so the left mount is inserted from the back and the right from the front. Take out the screw joining the wheel speed sensor routing bracket to the mounting flange on the strut. To make sure the stud doesn't rotate while removing the nut, hold it still with an open-end wrench on the flat area machined into it. Turn the wrench, then take out the nut and hit the stud, making it slide out of the bracket as you do so. The strut bolts at the assembly-to-knuckle point are serrated and should not be rotated while removing them. When dealing with the left strut bolt, stop the bolt heads from rotating and use a pin punch to remove the two bolts that keep the strut attached to the knuckle after first removing the twin mount nuts with an open-end wrench. To install the proper strut, follow the steps as before. After that, take out the wiper arms and cowl grille from the cowl plenum. After that, remove the three nuts at the upper connection of the strut assembly to the strut tower and lift out the strut from the bottom of the car. Use the right procedure to remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.
