2009 Dodge Avenger Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove a Camshaft on 2009 Dodge Avenger?
A: First pull upward on the engine cover to remove it before taking out the camshaft. Remove the negative battery cable from its plug and then remove the cylinder head cover. Lift and shore up the car, then take off the frame cover part from the right splash shield. With the engine at TDC, compare where the camshaft timing signal is with the surface where the cylinder head cover is sealed. Identify the chain links following the timing marks with a paint marker. Lift out the timing tensioner plug from the front cover, then slip a small allen wrench into the timing tensioner plug hole to release the tensioner under the allen wrench handle. Interest Locking Wedge 9701 between the camshaft phasers and lightly press it home so it doesn't move. Mark the place and position of each camshaft bearing cap cap with a permanent ink or paint marker and remove the cap on the front side. Gradually tighten each removed intake and exhaust camshaft bearing cap bolt by one closing and then removing them. Lift the rear of the intake camshaft upward and spin it while removing it from the front bearing cradle, next lift the timing chain from the sprocket and get rid of the exhaust camshaft. After that, put wire around the timing chain to avoid it falling into the timing chain cover.
