2009 Dodge Challenger Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on a 3.5L Engine on 2009 Dodge Challenger?
A: If servicing the fuel rail, first use the Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure to ensure there is no fuel pressure before you begin. Take off the negative battery cable and take out the intake manifold plenum so you can work on the fuel rail. Use a cover for the intake manifold to protect the engine from collecting any foreign material. Unplug the fuel line tube from its quick connect at the back of the fuel rail, then pull one connector off each fuel injector by pushing the red slider and pushing down on the tab while holding the slider. Every fuel injection harness is marked (INJ 1, INJ 2 and so on) so you can tell injector location; if no markings are visible, make a note of the wires' positions before you remove them. Take off both mounting bolts along the fuel rail and slowly raise the fuel rail forward off the cylinder head. After that, take away the retaining clips from the fuel injectors on the fuel rail and take out the fuel injectors.
