  A: The first thing to do is turn off the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) by pulling out and separating the negative side of the battery cable and waiting two minutes for the capacitor to go empty. Do not strike or drop your occupant restraint controller, since it holds the important sensor for triggering air bags. If you drop the air bag control module, you will need to fill the air bag control module request and purchase a new one. On vehicles equipped with an OCS, you should not replace both the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) at the same time. Start by pulling the negative cable from the battery, then use the C-4755 trim stick to take off the left door sill trim cover and then remove the screw and left cowl trim cover after that. Then, take away the left front panel end cap, remove two screws from the steering column cover and leave the hood open by removing its handle. To remove the reinforcement, take out four screws; then unplug the steering column tilt lever and separate the upper and lower column shrouds. Cut the electrical wiring from the harness on the column, separate the shift cable in the column shift lever actuator and take it out of the column bracket. If switching your SKIM module, unplug the electrical connector, remove the upper steering shaft coupler bolt and toss out the brake light switch. Take off the four bolts holding the steering column to the mounts, lower the column from the studs and then take out the assembly from the inside of your car. Now, pull the bolts holding the pedal support bracket, unlink the release rod with the pedal assembly and take out the connectors from the fuse block. Remove the bolt for the ground wire, open the trim covers in the driver's side A-pillar grab handle and then take off the A-pillar trim panel. Uninstall the floor console, cut the connections of the two wires that run to the body from the ORC and with the center harness screws removed from under the carpet, remove the instrument panel wiring harness. After the center support bolts and the driver's seat are out, remove the flex hose and pass through panel screws from the support, followed by the driver's side floor duct and the right instrument panel end cap. Remove the bolts holding the passenger side support, then push the trim stick C-4755 into the right side of the door to take off the sill and cowl trim covers. Elminate the amp and its connectors, then withdraw the two bolts that hold down the harness and ground wire. Uninstall the back duct on the driver's side, pull off the covers on the grab handle of the passenger side A-pillar and remove that side's A-pillar trim panel. Take out the instrument panel defroster grille using a trim stick C-4755, disconnect the sensor electrical connector if there is one and remove all four fenceline bolts. The instrument panel assembly should now be lifted off the side support pins and removed from the driver's door.
