2009 Dodge Grand Caravan Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install and Bleed a Brake Caliper on 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: You should follow a brake bleeding procedure which is built into the process of swapping brake calipers. Take out the outboard pad first from the adapter bracket. Mount the disc brake caliper down the inboard brake pad receptacle on the brake caliper adapter bracket and the brake rotor, avoiding any damage to the guide pin boots. Keep the guide pin in place with a wrench before firmly tightening the upper and lower caliper guide pin bolts. Put the banjo bolt at the end of the brake hose and use two new washers. Then tighten it to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Once you have removed the caliper, put the caliper lever return spring between the cable lever and the anchor bracket and do not join the cable equalizer at this point. Head inside your vehicle to replace the brake pedal hardware and use your foot to pump the brake pedal until the rotor fingers feel the spacer surface. Pull out the lower guide pin bolt and raise the caliper assembly higher than the adapter bracket, then put in the outboard pad once again. Unscrew the caliper bleeder screw one full turn and drive the piston into the cylinder using Special Tool 8807-1, Special Tool 8807-2 and a 3/8 inch drive ratchet. Fix the lower guide pin bolt after you have set the caliper back on the adapter and then close the bleeder screw to finish the installation. While you're releasing air from the brake caliper, keep an eye on the brake fluid in the reservoir. Ask someone to repeatedly press the brake pedal and keep it pressed as you loosen the bleeder screw, wait for the pedal to sink and tighten the screw back up. Carry out the sequence until no more air is left and use your usual bleed procedure for the remaining wheel circuits if you have to. Set both guide pin bolts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.), then release the parking brake cable strand, hook it to the caliper lever to hold it in place and stick the leftover cable into the brake housing hole and snap it into the bracket. Replace the parking brake cable equalizer and perform a self-adjustment for the parking brake lever assembly. Place the tire and wheel assembly, making sure the wheel nuts are tightened to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), lower the vehicle, fasten the negative battery cable and use the car in a road test to clear away any foreign debris on the brakes.
