2008 Dodge Grand Caravan Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Remove and Replace a Rear Brake Caliper on 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: First, take out the outboard pad from the adapter bracket to remove and replace the rear brake caliper. Set the disc brake caliper over the inboard brake pad on the adapter bracket and the brake rotor and turn its guide pin bolt while keeping the guide pin in place with a wrench. Place the caliper guide pin bolts into the same holes as the adapter bracket and slightly tighten them. Attach the banjo bolt to the brake flex hose, adding a brake hose washer on each end and tighten it to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). If you take out the caliper lever, place the return spring between the cable lever and anchor bracket before the cable equalizer is connected again. Open the vehicle door and get the brake pedal holder out, then press on the brake pedal until you can feel the rear caliper close onto the brake rotor. Unbolt the lower guide pin underneath the brake caliper and then lift the assembly clear of the adapter bracket. Secure the outboard pad in the adapter bracket and then open the caliper bleeder screw at least all the way. Secure the piston into the caliper bore using Special Tool 8807-1, 8807-2 and the rest of the assembly tools, always making sure not to put too much pressure on the screw drive. After closing the bleeder screw, gently place the brake caliper over the adapter bracket and attach and lightly secure the lower guide pin bolt. While you are bleeding air from the brake caliper, keep an eye on the master cylinder reservoir's fluid level. Make sure you have someone pump the brake pedal down as you open the bleeder screw to let out the fluid and air. Close the bleeder screw as soon as the pedal can be pressed farther down. Keep repeating the process until you can't find any more air in the tires and bleed any remaining wheel circuits if needed. Make sure both guide pin bolts are tightened to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.), then pull the parking brake cable outward, connect it to the caliper lever and put back any extra cable into the mounting bracket. Reattach the equalizer to the parking brake cable and once again set the parking brake lever assembly's automatic tension. Have the tire and wheel assembly installed and secure the wheel mounting nuts with 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) of tightening, then lower the vehicle, connect the battery negative cable and take it out for a quick road test.
