How to Service the Fuel Pump and Gauge Sender on 2009 Dodge Journey?

When servicing the fuel gauge sender, first empty the fuel tank, stand in a well-ventilated area and make sure you are wearing the right clothing and eye protection because fuel exposure is a risk. Blow out the area surrounding the fuel tank opening with compressed air before you start working. To remove the main fuel pump module's lock-ring, place the lock-ring remover/installer 9340 into the lock-ring notches, attach a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar and rotate the bar counterclockwise. Point the orientation of the main fuel pump module, slowly lift it up and out of the tank to keep the vehicle clean. Remove sufficient fuel to make the internal fuel line visible; if your vehicle has AWD, disconnect that line and then take out the module without bending the float arm, discarding the rubber seal. Repeat for the auxiliary fuel pump module by marking where it sits, removing the lock-ring, raising it up, separating the internal fuel line, taking it out and discarding the O-ring seal; remember to not damage the float arm.
