2009 Dodge Nitro Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How is the Harmonic Balancer Installed on 2009 Dodge Nitro?
A: Before installing the harmonic balancer, clean both the harmonic balancer bore and the crankshaft nose so no damage occurs to the crankshaft, harmonic balancer, or Special Tool 8512A. Put the crankshaft harmonic balancer slot over the crankshaft key and slide it a little bit on the crankshaft. The Harmonic Balancer Installer 8512A is assembled by threading the nut onto the shaft, setting the roller bearing (1) onto the threaded rod (3) so the hardened side is facing the nut and placing the hardened washer onto the rod. Cover the threads on the threaded rod using Mopar(R) Nickel Anti-Seize or Loctite No. 771. Press the harmonic balancer onto the crankshaft with the Harmonic Balancer Installer 8512A and then install and tighten the crankshaft harmonic balancer bolt to 175 Nm (130 ft. lbs.). Following, fit the accessory drive belt, then join the negative cable to the battery.
