2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Control Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove the Front Lower Control Arm on 2009 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: First, support and lift the vehicle, then come down, remove the wheel and tire assembly. Have a person hold the lower ball joint where it meets the lower control arm on the outboard side. After that, take out the shock and make sure the caliper assembly does not hang freely. After that, remove the disc brake caliper adapter, the rotor and the upper ball joint nut. Through the lower control arm, top coil spring and shock hole, place the Front Spring Compressor DD-1278, making sure the bell adapter touches the lower arm and attaching the assembly using a nut at the shock hole. Finger tighten the nut on the spring compressor, then turn it 1/2 a turn loose to keep the spring secured. With Ball Joint Remover 9360, drop the upper ball joint downward from the knuckle and then pull out the knuckle from the car. Unscrew the lower ball joint and lower stabilizer link nuts and pry the ball joint from the knuckle with Ball Joint Remover 8677, making sure the upper arm is bolstered above to prevent the rebound. Take the lower arm off its support and place the spring compressor to give you space to take the ball joint out of the knuckle. Gently unclamp the lower control arm by loosening the spring compressor tool and then take out the compressor. Ultimately, take out the coil spring and isolator pad, then take out the four pivot bolts on both the front and back of the suspension and remove the entire rear lower control arm.
